Google Chat: Add Member to Google Chat Space

Description

Adds one or more users to an existing Google Chat space from within an Incident Workflow. If a user has auto-accept disabled in Google Chat, they receive an invitation and must accept before joining. Use this action in combination with Create a Google Chat Private Space to automatically assemble your incident response team in a dedicated channel.

Prerequisites

Before using this action, connect PagerDuty to your Google Workspace:

  1. Navigate to Integrations Extensions Google.
  2. Click Connect a new Workspace.
  3. Select your Google account from the authorization screen and click Continue.
  4. Click Allow to confirm the integration.

A confirmation message appears when the connection is successful.

Required permissions:

  • PagerDuty: Admin, Global Admin, or Account Owner role
  • Google: Administrator permissions in your Google Workspace account

Instructions

  1. If you have not done so, follow the instructions to Create an Incident Workflow.
  2. When the instructions prompt you to add actions, select this action.
  3. Enter the following Inputs and click Save.
  4. Continue following instructions to Publish the Workflow.
  5. When the action runs, you will see the Outputs listed below.

Tips

  • Auto-Accept Disabled: Users who have disabled auto-accept in Google Chat receive an invitation rather than being added directly. They must accept the invitation before participating in the space.
  • Chaining Actions: If this step follows a Create a Google Chat Private Space action, use the Space Name output from that step as the Space Name input here.
