Log In to PagerDuty

You can log in to PagerDuty in two ways. Depending on your account configuration, one option may not be available:

Log in With Email and Password

  1. In a supported web browser, navigate to identity.pagerduty.com or open the PagerDuty mobile app and click Sign In.
    • If prompted, click Continue in the confirmation modal.
  2. Enter the email address associated with your PagerDuty account and click Next.
  3. Enter your password and click Sign In.
    • If your email address connects to more than one PagerDuty account, the web app or mobile app displays a list of accounts. Select the account you want to log in to from the list.
🚧

Rate Limiting

If you attempt to log in multiple times within a short period, you may encounter an error message. PagerDuty enforces rate limits on login attempts to protect accounts. Wait a few minutes before attempting to log in again.

SSO Troubleshooting

If you do not see Sign In with Single Sign-On after entering your email, or if you cannot log in to your account, contact your Account Owner to troubleshoot and verify your SSO configuration.

Log in Via Welcome Email

When your administrator configures SSO, you receive an email from your identity provider notifying you that you can access your account via SSO. Log in for the first time by clicking the link in the welcome email.

The following example shows an Okta welcome email. Your email details vary based on your identity provider:

Safari Content Blockers

On iOS devices, content blockers in Safari can sometimes prevent the SSO login button from rendering on the login screen. To administer this setting, navigate to your device's Settings Safari Extensions.

Log in Via Identity Provider

🚧

Identity Provider

Most SSO configurations allow you to log in using your identity provider. The UI varies depending on the service you use. The steps are similar to the following section, but refer to your identity provider documentation for further assistance.

  1. Log in to your identity provider (for example, Okta) and search for PagerDuty in your connected apps.
  2. Click PagerDuty to automatically log in to your PagerDuty account.

FAQ

Do I need to select my service region?

If you log in with an email and password, you do not need to specify whether your account is based in the Europe or United States service region. The login system works globally and logs you in to the appropriate account depending on the credentials you enter. If you use the same email and password combination for accounts in both regions, the system displays a list of accounts that indicates the region for each account.

I use Single Sign-On. Why do I not see the option to enter my email and password, too?

Your PagerDuty administrator configured the account to allow login only via single sign-on. Contact your PagerDuty administrator if you want to use an email and password to log in to PagerDuty.

I have multiple accounts with the same email. Why do I not see a list of accounts?

You see a list of accounts when they use the exact same email and password combination. If you use different passwords but the same email address for different accounts, the mobile app or web app does not present a list of accounts.

Can I use a password manager to log in?

Yes. Testing confirms that several password managers successfully handle your login credentials, even if you have multiple PagerDuty accounts. If you use a unique password for each PagerDuty account, the mobile app or web app successfully logs you in to the appropriate account.

If I have multiple PagerDuty accounts, should I use the same password for each?

No. PagerDuty does not recommend using the same password across multiple accounts for security reasons, though certain configurations can require it.

What are the differences if I log in via SSO at subdomain.pagerduty.com vs. identity.pagerduty.com?

The flowcharts in the following section show the experience based on where you start:

Log in With the Account-Specific Subdomain

The SSO login path beginning at an account-specific URL (for example, subdomain.pagerduty.com or subdomain.eu.pagerduty.com) is streamlined. You see Sign in With SSO on the first screen. You follow this path when logging in:

Log in From identity.pagerduty.com

identity.pagerduty.com is a general login page that allows you to authenticate with PagerDuty and log in to your account.

When starting from this login URL, note the following details:

  • If you log in via identity.pagerduty.com, the web app or mobile app can display options to log in with SSO and an email and password. This indicates your email address connects to multiple accounts where at least one account uses SSO and another uses an email and password.
  • For security, if you log in to an SSO account using this method, you must specify the subdomain you want to log in to.
